Think Positive
May 18th 2008 09:56
We hear this so many times and often it's just easier said than done.
For the whole week I've been wanting to post something on this blog which is supposed to focus on things that make me feel happy, things that give you that warm fluffy feeling. I've been successful, consistently.
If you haven't concluded yet, well this means my own life's not doing as great. No amount of positive thinking (literally and figuratively) could help me create something for this post.
This, however, made me realize how negative we naturally are as human beings. I've looked at things that usually make me happy (i.e. my son and his silly ways), watched shows that have very positive vibes -- (discovery travel and living always does the trick for me... not this time), I read things that would help lighten my mood (religious/inspirational verses).
Instead of making me feel better, I felt sadder. I even cried several times.
It's human nature to sulk on something. There are a few who can stay positive no matter what, but don't we usually label them as "hippies" or a bit nuts?
Why is it so hard to be positive? I know there will be times you'll be completely down... But there's got to be something. Something or someone that'll help me think positive.
Nevertheless, soon as I'm out of this... I'll make it a point I will have a post that aims to make someone happier or give them that bit of nostalgia.

I think we all have those times where it is hard to be positive no matter what we try to change our feelings. Life can be hard. Feeling sad or down is OK. Noone can be happy all the time. Those feelings are OK.

Yes, they do suck. I know what you mean. Sometimes I wish mine would go when I want them to but it doesn't seem to work like that, such a pity..

You have a nice name, btw...
Sometimes you need other people to cheer you up once in a while... if you enjoy travel tales, you might enjoy my current series on Postmodern Critic - it's about my experiences with Asia.
Some things that have cheered me up recently: Barack Obama, Viggo Mortensen, progressive thinkers like Picasso (there's a quote from him on Daily Inspirations if you're interested - oh dear, I don't mean to promote my blogs this much!), gay marriage being made legal in California, thinking about how special a time all the people in Beijing are going to have for the Olympics, even if I can't be there...
Read an inspirational astrologist's horoscope for you here (you don't have to believe in astrology to enjoy the self-help-oriented writing), read an Oscar Wilde play on Online Literature , or take a look at the magnificent photos on Terra Galleria.

thanks for the name compliment by the way. I do like my name too
That's quite a list you shared and I probably will go through some of them. Funny how you shared stuff about Asia, I'm from Asia so it doesn't interest me as much... but i do plan on going to Singapore on June.. which is still unsure because of my current errr.. situation?
thanks for all your suggestions. Appreciate them.
see you around!

Best of luck with Singapore, I hope everything works out for you...
See you around too, and I think it's fabulous that you're writing about positive things in general - I will be back!

I've always thought of downtimes as a "phase". Negative feelings do come and go. It is easier to deal with them if we are aware what are causing them (but since you did not mention what it is that's causing you those negative thoughts...)
Anyway, I've had my own share of griefs and the most effective way that I've tried (so far) of dealing with them is to: identify exactly what's causing them, decide on a solution, implement it, accept the consequences (if any) and never delve on it again.
Of course, if your decision is to dilly-dally on it because of some emotional considerations which you deem very important, then I guess, you'll have to accept the consequences of that as well (whcih to me means longer downtimes).
But then maybe I am one of your "bit nuts" since I know I am not a "hippy"
You seem to be a girl who knows what she wants.. I'm sure you can snap out of it after the "phase," which you can shorten, should you choose to do it.

sorry I did not see this post sooner, or I may have and not clicked on it, for I too feel very down at times, and it is hard to handle, to get up and go through another day, with no change in feeling, or no solution to the problem that caused so much concern.
Well, I have one small tonic for your 'blues', and that is, you are making new friends here on Orble, and we together create a new world of our own, one that has people from all cultures, without the problems of governmental differences, or having to put up with people who make us unhappy, on Orble there are ways to deal with it.
I suppose I envy the Buddhist monks the most, who have conquered the inner world of their mind, so they can reflect away thoughts that make them sad or angry, and accept life as it is.
Amazing people. I have a Tibetan monk friend here where I live in the mountains, and he and his people are an inspiration to me.
So, cheer up old girl!!
Make the sun blink with the radiance of your smile, and maybe that will attract someone of good nature and heart, who will lift your spirits and help solve what worries you.
cheers my friend!

Emotions are oftentimes overwhelming. This is the first time i've had this much pain emotionally in my life.
I do thank God for having friends who keep me strong... and all this time i do go back to Orble
