Grab a Hobby Now!
August 19th 2008 04:57
in the olden times (by that I mean about 20 or so years ago) when we hear hobby we see grandma knitting, or mom gardening, dad errr building something... This is because a hobby WAS something people do to pass the time.
Nowadays, a hobby is something we enjoy doing, to take our minds off whatever we're so busy with in our lives (i.e. work, work and family, and work).
I've just started one myself -- i found digital scrapbooking interesting and fun. So I tried downloading a free software. It sucked! Then I realized that the tools/images/graphics being used were all .png and .jpg files which means I can use any digital imaging and editing software.
I have been using one (which I used to create my cirruscloud header) before that I feel so comfortable with so I started using that and came up with a cool new header for my multiply site! I love it!
This new hobby's helping me relax and just forget about anything and everything (sorta like when I'm playing SIMS lol).
If you've been thinking about starting a hobby, here are a few reasons why YOU SHOULD:
Time for OurselvesOne of the biggest advantages of a hobby is it allows for quiet time. People tend to think more clearly when enjoying their favorite hobby, without the distractions of the outside world to bother them.
Reveals a Talent or PassionHobbyists often find a talent or passion they may not have known they had before. Some people have sat down at the piano to learn how to play, only to find out they've always had a hidden talent for playing it anyway.
Use a Hobby as a Networking ToolThe only time you should list your hobby on a resume or job application is when your hobbies pertain to the type of job that you are applying for. On the other hand, mentioning a hobby during a job interview might be an endearing quality the potential employer will remember.
Hobbies Offer a Time of Relaxation
Most hobbies are an ideal way to relax. Coming home from work and sitting down to enjoy your favorite pastime helps to take your mind off of the stresses of the day. Hobbies also help you unwind before bed so you can get a better night's sleep.

I started my hobby not realizing all these benefits!
So... if you still don't have a hobby, GET ONE!

I think that means it's time to slow things down. I said the same thing for myself when I got married and had a kid, at the same time handling a future promotion in the company I used to work for.
I said I wanted to have a hobby, even if it's just reading a new book every week or playing SIMS the way I used to.
I only got to do this now because of a lot of errr turning points in my life. Made me realize that I need to slow things down and look back. Do something that I like and that doesn't require a lot of thinking.
Hope you do take things slower. We only live once, we don't want to die not remembering if we had fun.
