Everyday I go to CNN.com to find out what's happening around the world. Unfortunately, if it's not something sad, it's something tragic, disturbing or disgusting even. This is why I started this blog. This blog is all about feel good stories. sappy, yeah but we can all use one every now and then. Things that can lift us high above the clouds. :) ss_blog_claim=fb3c65eb182fdd37ae437a694d2ea7d5

On 09/11/01 I was ....

September 12th 2010 08:33
I was home. In a chatroom - chatting with online friends as well as with my then boyfriend who was in California.

It was night time in Manila and people in the US were starting their day. People I was chatting with were mostly Filipinos -both in the Philippines and in the US.

When the news started coming about the Twin Towers, people in the US, particularly those in New York started to freak out, calling relatives all over the US who might be in the towers, on the planes or anywhere that could be related to the tragedy.

One of them, a high school student in Queens was saying she's at the 4th floor of their school building and she has plain view of the towers from where she was sitting. I can just imagine the horror in her and her classmates as they watch the towers billowing black smoke and as the 2nd plane hit the north tower.

To us who were in the Philippines, it was like watching a high-budget movie -- but having these people who were geographically nearer and may have friends and family where it's happening made everything real to us.

The hairs in my arms and the back of my neck stood as I remember us actually standing at Ground Zero a year before this happened. It was Memorial Day so we weren't able to go up the towers, but I remember how massive and majestic those towers were. I even had a picture on a ferry going to Lady Liberty with those towers as my background. That was just a year ago! What if we went there 2001 instead of 2000? What if it happened on 2000? Sends chills down my spine.

It rattles you as a human being to see something so devastating broadcasted live and you know you can't do anything. Even the people at ground zero couldn't do much but help those who managed to get out of the building. But as the towers crumbled... nobody could do anything.

I wonder. If this kind of tragedy happened TODAY - only 9 years later, would there have been other ways to help and save more lives?

MY conversations with God

September 15th 2008 05:06
I've been reading this book - Conversations with God (book 2). I found it at the office's library. The owner/boss has a huge collection of management and leadership books but has this one tiny section of inspirational and "others" books where I saw the book by Neale Donald Walsch

It's basically about the author who claims he had "conversations" with God when one day he wrote to a piece of paper out of anger to God and a voice or thoughts started pouring in, as if an answer to his question.

I hardly care if the premise is true, the contents are very thought provoking though. I actually believe too that you CAN have conversations with God. In fact, you do -- everyday of your life, you do.

When you believe you're talking to yourself and some "random" thoughts or solutions or ideas come to your head, you were talking to God. Some people call it prayer.

My marital situation/dilemma/turmoil has made me more attuned to my own "conversations" with the Almighty Being. Mind you, I may be Roman Catholic by religion and baptism, but I don't necessarily conform to it. I still believe there is one being who created us all and everything we see, know and think. Even those we don't know, see or think.

It is through these conversations that I find renewed strength and reason to keep holding on to my marriage. To trust and have faith that this is one of those big humps in the road that my husband and I will go through. Hopefully it's the biggest we'll go through, although we're still young in this world and in this marriage. I firmly believe that through faith, courage and most of all LOVE we will make it through.

I keep having these conversations. No i'm not yet crazy.

Try it, it'll help you feel refreshed and lighter. He does take all of your burdens away if you let him.

Seafood = comfort food

September 10th 2008 08:10
Everytime I feel like indulging myself to comfort me or sometimes even console me, I look for seafood. It's absolutely superb and it's way healthier than anything else I'd feel like eating. Which means I can eat more!

Now when I talk about seafood, nothing beats FRESH seafood -- i guess, nothing except Louisiana Seafood!

Whenever I hear Louisiana, all I can think of is spicy, seafood, creole, jambalaya! What I would do to have been at the Great American Seafood Cook-off! Everything seafood AND Louisiana!

Their website featured FIVE amazing recipes that I would just love to try or have a taste of. One in particular, the Shrimp and Andouille Cassoulet is just mouthwatering. Shrimps are something I won't ever pass on. I love it's texture and how delicious they are even with just a simple steaming.

Chef Brian Landry of Louisiana created this Louisiana Shrimp and Andouille sausage smothered in a white bean casserole and it's amazing how simple the recipe is (compared to most of the other featured recipes) and how it's very feasible to be cooked by someone like me!

Yes, i know it seems complicated after reading all of those instructions, but I consider myself experienced in the kitchen but not a professional either so his recipe was just something that intrigued and at the same time challenged me.

What else drew me to this dish? Creole of course! The medley of spices and seasonings are just inviting. Oh, and the "optional garnish"... SHOULD NOT be optional!

Notice how it says "fresh louisiana shrimp" on the recipe? It's just amazing how many things they can "freeze" nowadays, even seafood is frozen! I grew up having just FRESH seafood. My mom would buy shrimp or crabs or fish fresh from the market and would make it a point they're cooked the same day. She also taught me to try and look for shrimps and crabs that are still alive! Yes, weird as it may sound, YOU CAN buy more than fresh -- you can buy live seafood. You see the shrimps jumping and the crabs still struggling to get out of their binds but those are the kind of seafood that'll guarantee you a superb dish.

No matter how wonderful a recipe is, if you don't use FRESH, it's not going to taste great. What more is you can easily buy them at your local markets -- you're eating everything healthy, fresh, tasty AND local!

Just looking at the picture and visualizing the recipe, I can "taste" it. I can tell it's tasty! Now, I gotta go fnd me some fresh shrimp before my mind goes crazy dreaming about this dish!

When A Woman Falters

September 5th 2008 14:07
After months of dealing with some marital issues, talking to people, friends, even complete strangers, I have realized one thing. Women are Strength.

My husband and I are facing problems that could seem both simple and complicated - depending on how you look at it

That moment before going to bed...

August 19th 2008 15:32
One of the simple pleasures in life... is that moment before going to bed. When everyone's settled in. Pajamas, or shirt, or what ever you wear to bed. Warm milk, hot cocoa or tea. maybe a book beside you, or just your beloved husband or child.

That moment before going to bed when everything's silent and you start thinking about your day, your week, your life. It's a peaceful moment -- fleeting but peaceful, calm

Grab a Hobby Now!

August 19th 2008 04:57
in the olden times (by that I mean about 20 or so years ago) when we hear hobby we see grandma knitting, or mom gardening, dad errr building something... This is because a hobby WAS something people do to pass the time.

Nowadays, a hobby is something we enjoy doing, to take our minds off whatever we're so busy with in our lives (i.e. work, work and family, and work

Nice chatting with you

August 18th 2008 01:26
For a few months now, my husband and I are battling a storm. A storm that we're not necessarily battling together, in fact, it started out because we were battling each other.

We're a very young married couple, in this marriage for less than 5 years and I guess it's only but normal that we're experiencing. It's tough and extremely painful and heartbreaking but it's a storm I'm quite sure we have to experience for us to realize each other's worth

Coffee Comfort

August 17th 2008 01:27
One of the sure fire ways to get me going is a warm cup of coffee. Nothing beats that. It doesn't even have to be one of those "gourmet" coffees. Just a warm cup of freshly brewed coffee. Sometimes I'd even settle for instant coffee just to settle my nerves when I'm a bit stressed already or to wake me up a bit when I'm doing a project.

I started drinking coffee when I got to high school. Since then I got hooked! During that time there were still debates on whether coffee is good for you or not, especially children. My parents weren't so sure if I should be drinking coffee at that age, but what the heck

Passion to Inspire

August 14th 2008 06:24
This week I started working for a new company, on a per project basis. A friend of mine worked for this company before he got his Masters scholarship for Poland and Germany. The owner of the company loved his work so she paid for his ticket back here for the summer to help her with some projects she couldn't handle herself.

He on the other hand, learning that I just quit my job and knew that I fit the job description recommended me to the owner and a weekend after, I was working with him on a presentation
